Historic Stone House

One of North East PA's most iconic rural landholdings. Fern Hall Estate was built in 1916 by the Johnson & Johnson family spanning 100 acres of rolling countryside.

Their homestead is set high on the hill with sweeping valley views of nearby Elk Mountain and Crystal Lake.

Built from stone quarried on the property the nine bedroom Mansion is graced with immense proportions and details typical of the era.

Merino sheep farm

From the moment you drive up to the Mansion you will feel as if you stepped into another world, enjoying a sense of peace and tranquility.

Fern Hall lies with a two and a half hour drive from New York or Philadelphia and 5 hours from Boston or Toronto. Enjoy the space and privacy of rural living, with no shortage of things to do.

A working organic sheep farm is operated by the Balfour family on the estate and future plans for an adjacent coffee shop/wine bar.

Spring fed lake

Guests can relax and enjoy the newly remodeled lake house which lies opposite the Mansion on Crystal Lake, a 45 acre spring fed private lake.

The lake supports local wild life including eagles and year round recreational activities.

Clean up & Renovation

We are in process of cleaning and restoring the historic house and lake front.

The Estate will host community events and be available for weekly rental for family retreats starting in 2020.

Plans include the addition of a locally run coffee shop and wine bar.

The barns and surrounding land is being restored to a working sheep farm producing organic meats and ultra fine australian merino wool.
